Functional Skills in English in Milton Keynes

Functional Skills Entry levels, and Level 1 & 2 in Milton Keynes

Functional skills are qualifications in Maths and English that students require to improve employment chances and gain access into higher education such as University and apprenticeships.

The most popular functional skills are Math and English as these level 2 qualifications are mandatory for most jobs and University courses. These qualifications are equivalents to GCSE level 4 or a C grade in the old grading system. At Tutorlage we help people of all ages and abilities to achieve their functional skills in Math and English for both level 1 and level 2.

Functional Skills Tutors for English in Milton Keynes

A key aim for Functional Skills English specifications is that they should enable the student to develop confidence and fluency in, and a positive attitude towards, English. Students should be able to demonstrate their competence in English by using it in real world situations as well as demonstrating a sound grasp of basic English knowledge and skills.

We address our students’ needs by creating personal programmes tailored to their strengths. This helps our students learn efficiently and effectively retain information. Additionally, we identify any gaps in our students’ educational foundations and work to fill those in. By tutoring in our students’ homes, whether that’s face to face, online or a combination of both, we eliminate the fear and anxiety of learning in a new environment. Students can feel comfortable asking questions and are more willing to review the information they need to in order to understand the subject.

‘Speaking, listening and communicating’ within Functional Skills English is non-written communication, normally conducted face-to-face, and can also include ‘virtual’ communication methods such as telephone or spoken web-based technologies. The terms ‘speaking, listening and communicating’ are intended to be interpreted in a broad, inclusive way and are not intended to create any unnecessary barriers to students with speech or hearing impairment.

‘Reading and writing’ within Functional Skills English is the understanding of written language, and to communicate in specific contexts. This can be demonstrated through the use of texts on screen or on paper.

Convenient. Comfortable. One-to-one.

We've helped hundreds of students gain the skills they need to learn.
